Website Copyright:
Copyright of websites and web pages is becoming more and more important.
The advantages to being able to display your product, service or information
to a global audience are many, which is why most website owners spend much
time and effort in creating websites that are both visually pleasing and fully functional.
The time it takes to create a design, design the menu system, source imagery for the site,
write the text for each page, then create the HTML site can be hugely rewarding when the
website begins to receive visitors which translate into leads or sales.
However, as your website starts to gain attention, the threat of copyright theft becomes more
real. How easy it is for others to simply copy and paste the text from your website and use
it as their own. Worse yet, it is not difficult for others to save the entire site, all the
pages, graphics and logos and upload to their own server and use as their own site.
Should this happen it can be very difficult to prove which site existed first.
The WHOIS record can help, but this does not prove who created the site files.
By submitting all files to Protect My Work, you will be able to prove that your
files were created by you and in existence at an exact point in time, via an
independent third party.
By submitting your design files such as PSD´s, PNG´s, JPG´s, GIF´s, and your HTML,
ASP or PHP pages to Protect My Work, your website will be registered and held in
our database, along with the time and date it was received. It is possible to
submit any digital file, either by email or by logging into your account and uploading it.
For extra proof of the originality of the website, you are able to upload different versions
of the work, demonstrating the different stages the website went through in reaching the final
version. This can be invaluable evidence should you need it.
Protect My Work allows it´s members to upload up to 8MB in one go, either by email or upload.
Members may upload up to five separate files in one go as long as the combined total of all
five files is less than 8MB.
Members have the option to simply attach up to 5 attachments (totalling less that 8MB) to an email
and send it to protect@protectmywork.com. This is without doubt the easiest, fastest and simplest way to register
your work. After sending the email, you will receive one email in reply asking you confirm. Once confirmed,
you will receive a final email with details of the recently registered work, a unique username and password.
This unique username and password can be given to anyone that you may need to prove the work is registered.
The username and password can be entered in the "Search Protected Work" page and the work will be displayed
for download.
This in itself can be an effective deterrent of anyone using your site without permission.
